January 11th is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is observed every year on January 11th. On January 4, 2010, President Obama issued a proclamation naming January as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Despite efforts to combat trafficking across the globe, this heinous crime continues to be wildly lucrative and grow at an alarming rate. Human Trafficking Awareness Day was implemented to raise awareness among Americans that human trafficking does not just happen in other countries, but in states and communities across the United States – a fact some still struggle to recognize.
